Camiguin: The province of Camiguin is strengthening its livestock supply by implementing interventions for farmers.
According to Philippines News Agency, Gov. Xavier Jesus Romualdo stated that enhancing livestock quality and productivity is crucial for ensuring sustainable food security in the island province. "We're strengthening local farms in Camiguin by keeping our livestock healthy and helping our farmers produce more high-quality animals through our breeding and vaccination programs," he explained.
In 2025, the Provincial Veterinary Department (PVD) vaccinated 3,198 cows and carabaos against hemorrhagic septicemia and collected 360 blood samples from the farms of 72 poultry raisers to monitor avian influenza. Romualdo highlighted that the province also continued its artificial insemination program, which covered 307 swine, resulting in 1,194 piglets, with 50 sows currently pregnant this month.
Meanwhile, Dr. Lordgin Gamo, the provincial veterinarian, gathered the five municipal agriculturists across the island province to prepare for the province-wide mass annual vaccination, deworming, and spaying and neutering activities, which will be conducted twice a year. The PVD also outlined its 2026 livestock and poultry programs to ensure streamlined implementation.
