Cacdac in HK to Check on OFW Hospitalized Due to Tai Po Fire

Hong kong: Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) chief Patricia Yvonne “PY” Caunan flew to Hong Kong Tuesday morning to personally check on overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) affected by the deadly blaze at the Wang Fuk Court apartment complex in Tai Po. In an interview with Undersecretary Dominique Rubia-Tutay during the kickoff of Philippines-Finland Friendship Day in Mandaluyong City, she said Cacdac will personally check on OFW Rhodora Alcaraz, who is undergoing treatment at a hospital for her injuries.

According to Philippines News Agency, Tutay expressed sadness for the passing of another OFW, Maryan Pascual Esteban, who perished in the residential building fire. Tutay confirmed that all other Filipino workers are now accounted for. She assured that the Department of Migrant Workers is assisting all affected OFWs, especially Alcaraz, including the family of Esteban.

On Sunday, Cacdac and Caunan visited the family of Alcaraz in Cainta, Rizal, to personally convey their sympathies and assure full government assistance. OWWA stated that during the visit, Secretary Hans and Administrator PY assured the government will work to promptly repatriate the remains to the Philippines and assist the family with all necessary processes.

OWWA also informed that the OFW’s child will receive educational assistance up to college under the Education and Livelihood Assistance Program.
