CAAP Proposes Camera Installation in Five Airports for Enhanced Monitoring

Manila: The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is proposing the installation of cameras in five airports to enable real-time monitoring of weather conditions and airport operations.

According to Philippines News Agency, the five targeted airports include CAAP-operated San Vicente Airport and Siquijor Airport, as well as the privately operated Clark International Airport, Ninoy Aquino International Airport, and Bohol-Panglao International Airport. This proposal follows CAAP's recent renewal of its partnership with Weathernews Inc. (WNI), a weather service company based in Japan.

Currently, at least 24 of the 44 CAAP-operated commercial airports have cameras installed by WNI. These cameras are specialized, high-resolution, and weather-hardened devices designed to provide continuous, real-time monitoring of atmospheric conditions, sky conditions, and runway visibility. Kate Cunanan from CAAP's Media Relations Office emphasized the importance of these devices in a message to the Philippine News Agency.

Furthermore, CAAP Information Officer Bea Bernardo clarified that, despite the private operation of three of the proposed airports, CAAP still manages their airside. In a news release on Friday, CAAP reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing collaborations that support safer, more efficient, and more reliable aviation services.
