CAAP Elevates Alert Status as Typhoon Tino Approaches

Manila: The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) placed all airports and offices under its supervision on heightened alert in preparation for Typhoon Tino.

According to Philippines News Agency, CAAP Director General Raul Del Rosario ordered all area center managers and airport managers in potentially affected regions to ensure the readiness of airport facilities, equipment, and personnel. “All airports under CAAP jurisdiction have been instructed to secure communication and navigational equipment, readiness of emergency response teams, and coordinate with airlines and local authorities for possible flight disruptions or cancellations,” Del Rosario said in a statement.

In addition, airports were ordered to assist passengers through the provision of temporary accommodation, food, and other essential goods for stranded passengers. Malasakit Help Desks have likewise been activated to provide comfort and immediate assistance to passengers.

“CAAP is closely monitoring Typhoon Tino’s movement and potential impact on aviation operations. We are ensuring that all necessary precautions are in place to safeguard lives and maintain operational readiness across all airports,” he said. Del Rosario assured of close monitoring and constant coordination between airline operators and airport authorities for the safety of travelers.

Tino is forecast to make its initial landfall over the southern portion of Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, or Dinagat Islands late Monday night or early Tuesday morning before crossing the Visayas and northern Palawan, then exiting through the West Philippine Sea by Wednesday afternoon.
