BSP Emphasizes Early Financial Literacy for Students and Educators

Legazpi:The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is actively promoting financial literacy among students and educators, encouraging young Filipinos to adopt sound money-management habits before entering the workforce.

According to Philippines News Agency, over 300 participants in Albay attended the two-day Economic and Financial Learning Program (EFLP) 2026 aimed at the academic sector. Students and educators from universities across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao also participated online. The program, themed 'EkonoMEya Ekonomiya + Ako, From Awareness to Action Making Smart Money Decisions Early,' is designed to reach specific sectors and promote responsible personal financial management.

Marianne Santos, director of the BSP Economic and Financial Learning Office, emphasized the importance of early financial education in fostering resilience against emergencies and unexpected expenses. She noted that Legazpi City was chosen due to its large student population, enhancing the BSP's outreach efforts.

The BSP offers free financial education through its E-Learning Academy, which includes modules on savings, budgeting, debt management, and digital financial literacy, among others. Santos highlighted the growing importance of digital financial literacy as more Filipinos engage in digital transactions.

Participants like Ashley Jillian Llacer, an accountancy student, and Jimuel Flores, a student leader, found the program beneficial for managing their finances and preparing for future needs. The EFLP sessions covered various topics, including economic awareness, money management, and financial protection.
