Manila: The Bureau of Customs (BOC) aims to generate about PHP200 million from the sale of 11 luxury vehicles, which will be auctioned at its main office in Port Area, Manila on Friday. Lawyer Chris Noel Bendijo, BOC deputy chief of staff, stated that the estimated revenue is based on the floor price of the vehicles, noting that proceeds from the public auction will be remitted to the Bureau of the Treasury for various projects of the Marcos administration.
According to Philippines News Agency, Bendijo expressed confidence in reaching the target revenue, emphasizing the importance of the auction proceeds for public projects. He invited bidders, highlighting the opportunity to purchase luxury vehicles at lower prices while contributing to the public treasury. Bendijo expressed hope for competitive bidding to maximize contributions to the Bureau of Treasury.
There is significant interest from potential buyers, Bendijo reported, urging them to register and pay the necessary fees to ensure that the luxury items can be converted into revenue for the Bureau of Customs. The vehicles slated for auction include high-end models such as a Rolls-Royce Cullinan 2021, Bentley Continental 2021, and Ferrari SF90 Stradale (Mansory) 2024, among others.
In addition to the auction, a negotiated sale is scheduled for March 26 for a Blue Bugatti Chiron (2017) and a Red Bugatti Chiron (2019). Meanwhile, the BOC has requested a court to return six luxury vehicles linked to fugitive lawmaker Zaldy Co, due to the forthcoming conclusion of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) later this month.
Bendijo explained that the BOC received a letter from ICI regarding its closure and the need to transfer vehicles in its facility. Consequently, the BOC filed a motion with the court to facilitate the transfer of these vehicles from ICI to the Bureau of Customs, aiming to expedite the resolution and secure custody of the vehicles.
