Subic: The Bureau of Customs (BOC) - Port of Subic has condemned and destroyed three 40-foot containers containing around 3,000 cases of assorted-brand cigarettes valued at PHP129.065 million. In a statement Wednesday, the Port reported that the condemned cigarettes, which had been declared abandoned, were destroyed through shredding and pyrolysis in accordance with established disposal procedures.
According to Philippines News Agency, the BOC stated that the three containers were part of the 10 containers of abandoned cigarettes identified for disposal, with a total estimated value of around PHP413 million. The Port of Subic has also indicated that condemnation and disposal activities for the remaining seven containers are ongoing and are being livestreamed through its official YouTube account, https://www.youtube.com@BOC-PortofSubic, allowing the public to witness the destruction process.
The Port emphasized that all disposal activities are conducted in coordination with the appropriate committees and accredited disposal facilities to ensure that condemned goods are properly accounted for, rendered unusable, and disposed of in accordance with the law.
The destruction was conducted from July 28 to August 3, 2026, at Legaxy 88 Recyclable Materials Collection Services in Santa Maria, Bulacan, the Port's accredited disposal facility.
