Manila: The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Tuesday reported a surplus amounting to PHP513 million on its receiving collection at the start of the year.
According to Philippines News Agency, Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno stated that for January 2026, the BOC collected PHP80.744 billion, exceeding its target and demonstrating a 100.6 percent revenue collection efficiency. This performance marked a PHP1.490 billion increase, or 1.9 percent growth, compared to the PHP79.254 billion collected in January 2025.
Nepomuceno emphasized that surpassing the January target reaffirms the dedication of Customs personnel and the growing cooperation of the trade community. He further expressed the BOC's commitment to maintaining this efficiency level to support the President's economic agenda and to showcase the BOC's ability to deliver reliable public service.
Throughout January 2026, the BOC conducted enforcement operations nationwide, leading to 66 apprehensions with a combined estimated value of PHP886.8 million in seized contraband and smuggled products. The largest seizures involved dangerous drugs valued at over PHP309 million, including illicit drugs worth PHP114.566 million found concealed in a shipment declared as malachite stones. Additional seizures included illicit cigarettes and tobacco products worth more than PHP209 million, vehicles and vessels valued at approximately PHP143 million, and electronics worth over PHP221 million.
