According to Philippines News Agency, Ateneo climbed to the top of the standings with six goals. Ateneo coach JP Merida expressed satisfaction with his team's performance, particularly in the first 15 minutes where they maintained a high tempo. He noted, "Of course, after the 15 minutes, it was an on-and-off performance from my team. That's the reason why Claret had a lot of chances." Merida was pleased that they did not concede a goal in the first half and was happy with the team's three goals in the second half.
Meanwhile, University of Santo Tomas kicked off its title-defense bid with a 1-0 win over De La Salle Zobel. Season 87 Best Midfielder Joshua Moleje sent the ball into La Salle's box, where Argos Alingalan finished from close range in the first minute of the match. UST assistant coach David Basa commented on the early goal, saying, "Definitely, it was a confidence booster, especially because many of them are playing in the UAAP for the first time."
In another match, Adamson University and PAREF Southridge settled for a 3-3 draw. Substitute striker Jose Augusto Mamon rescued a point for the Admirals with an 85th-minute header. Southridge's coach Sam Booney remarked, "It was a good game. Both sides were able to showcase what they have as a team. For me, it could have gone both sides. We'll take it as it is." Southridge defender Zachary Panlilio scored early, before Adamson responded with goals from Rian Solaiman and Mark Hayahay.
