BIR Launches Tax Compliance Mentoring Program for Micro and Small Taxpayers

Makati: The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Makati has introduced a new mentoring program designed to assist micro and small taxpayers in understanding and complying with their tax obligations. The initiative is aimed at simplifying the tax compliance process for these taxpayers.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Micro and Small Taxpayers Assistance and Mentoring Program (MS-TAMP) was officially launched on September 15. The program is structured as a support and educational framework rather than an audit initiative. The BIR has implemented regional orders for MS-TAMP, which include establishing an organizational structure, creating the official Revenue Region No. 8A-Makati City Viber Community Channel, an MS-TAMP infomercial, and the ceremonial sending of assistance notices to taxpayers.

BIR Regional Director and MS-TAMP Executive Sponsor Antonino Ilagan emphasized the program's focus on helping taxpayers through data-driven monitoring, taxpayer education, and coordinated assistance. The goal is to identify areas where guidance is needed, provide early assistance, and support micro and small taxpayers in complying accurately with tax regulations. Ilagan clarified that the program is not an audit initiative but rather an assistance and mentoring program.

BIR Commissioner Charlito Mendoza highlighted that the program is intended to help taxpayers understand their obligations, address any concerns, and facilitate easier compliance with tax rules.
