Benilde’s Liwag and Arellano’s Franco Clinch MVP Titles in NCAA Basketball

Quezon city: The NCAA Season 101 standouts in basketball were honored before Game 1 of the seniors best-of-three finals at Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City on Saturday. College of Saint Benilde’s Allen Bryant Liwag, a member of Gilas Pilipinas competing in the Thailand Southeast Games, secured his second Most Valuable Player (MVP) title with impressive averages of 15.71 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2 assists, and a block per game.

According to Philippines News Agency, joining Liwag in the Mythical Five were Jhuniel Dela Rama from San Sebastian College, Agjanti Demario Miller from San Beda University, Jonathan Moises Manalili from Letran, and Kevin Kyle Santos from Letran. Manalili also earned the Rookie of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors by posting an average of 14.087 points, 8.92 assists, and 5.15 rebounds per game.

Dela Rama was awarded the Defensive Player of the Year, and he was accompanied by Liwag, Santos, Ivan Clarence Dale Panapaan from Jose Rizal University, and Marcus Cyrus Nitura from Mapua University in the All-Defensive Team. The Most Improved Player award was given to Arellano University’s Renzo Antonion Abiera, who averaged 12.23 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. The Sportsmanship Award was claimed by Perpetual Help.

In the juniors category, Sean Franco made history as the first from Arellano to capture the MVP title. Joining him in the Mythical Team were teammate Ray Ladica, La Salle Green Hills’ Rookie of the Year Josef Calo-oy, teammate Patrick Pasinos, Kelly Coronel from Emilio Aguinaldo College, and Jhillian Palis from Mapua.

Franco also received the Defensive Player of the Year award. Pasinos, Mapua’s duo MJ Bernabe and John Bagro, Coronel, and San Sebastian’s Browyn Tepan joined him in the Defensive Team. The Most Improved Player award for the juniors went to Laurence Pillas of Arellano.
