Benguet: Benguet's cut-flower growers are anticipating an ample supply of blooms for Valentine's Day and the Panagbenga festival, attributed to the cold and dry weather conditions, as stated by an association official on Monday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Andi Colti, president of the La Trinidad Cut-Flower Growers Association, indicated that the favorable weather conditions are promising for flower production, with expectations to sustain supply even through Holy Week. Colti noted that the flower growers have been actively planting, resulting in a significant number of blooms, especially from open farms, ensuring readiness for the upcoming demand.
Colti highlighted a pest issue causing rusted leaves as a challenge but reassured that the supply remains adequate to meet both local festival requirements and the nationwide demand for Valentine's Day. He pointed out that the volume required for Panagbenga is relatively small compared to the flowers transported to Metro Manila and other regions of the country.
He further mentioned that most float makers prefer sourcing locally, while rose growers utilize technology to synchronize blooms with peak demand from February 13 to 15, thereby capitalizing on favorable pricing.
