Be at Airport 3 Hours Before Flight, BI Reminds Holy Week Travelers

Manila: The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is urging travelers planning to fly during the Holy Week to arrive at the airport at least three hours prior to their scheduled flights. This recommendation aims to ensure that passengers have ample time for processing and to avoid last-minute delays, especially during the busy travel period.

According to Philippines News Agency, travelers are also reminded to have all necessary travel documents ready. A key requirement for both outbound and inbound passengers is the eTravel clearance, which must be completed via the website eTravel.gov.ph or through the eGovPH super app at least 72 hours before the flight. Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado noted that a significant increase in passenger volume is expected at major international airports during this peak period.

The operator of Ninoy Aquino International Airport, New NAIA Infra Corp., has projected the arrival of approximately 1.35 million passengers between March 28 and April 5, encompassing the Easter Sunday weekend. Commissioner Viado emphasized, "Our officers are fully deployed to ensure smooth and efficient processing, but we strongly advise the public to arrive early and come prepared with complete documents."

Additionally, foreign nationals who have resided in the Philippines for more than six months are reminded to obtain their Emigration Clearance Certificates before leaving the country. Registered foreigners with ACR I-Cards should secure their reentry permits in advance from BI offices or the BI one-stop shop at NAIA.

Filipino government employees traveling abroad, even for leisure, must present a travel authority from their respective agencies. Minors not accompanied by their parents are required to have a travel clearance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Commissioner Viado highlighted that early processing of travel requirements plays a crucial role in alleviating congestion at the airport and ensuring a more streamlined travel experience. He also assured travelers that the e-gates system is operational, significantly reducing processing time and enhancing efficiency at immigration counters.
