BARMM Chief Minister Celebrates World Hijab Day with Bangsamoro Women

Manila: Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM): Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua joined Bangsamoro women in celebrating World Hijab Day, acknowledging their role as 'pillars of peace' and 'engineers of development.' The celebration took place on Monday, emphasizing the significance of the hijab as a symbol of faith and identity among Bangsamoro women.

According to Philippines News Agency, Macacua expressed in a statement on Tuesday that wearing the hijab is a testament to the Islamic faith of Bangsamoro women. He described the hijab not just as a piece of clothing but as an act of worship to Allah, symbolizing modesty, dignity, and moral strength deeply embedded in Islam.

Macacua highlighted that the observance of World Hijab Day in BARMM is not just a celebration but a reaffirmation of the principles of respect for faith, dignity for women, and unity grounded in diversity. The global event is marked on the first day of February as the National Day of Awareness and Other Traditional Garments and Attire, in accordance with Republic Act 12224, signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in 2022.
