Baguio Theme Park Owner Purchases Seized Rolls-Royce for PHP29 Million

Baguio: The controversial Rolls-Royce Cullinan (2023) seized from the Discaya couple has been sold for PHP29 million to a lone bidder, Igorot Stone Kingdom Inc., during the public auction of 10 luxury vehicles on Wednesday at the Bureau of Customs in Port Area. Igorot Stone Kingdom Inc. founder and Chief Executive Officer Pio Velasco said their company decided to purchase the car to preserve a piece of Philippine history.

According to Philippines News Agency, Velasco expressed that the purchase was a form of investment and a way to demonstrate that the Igorots are conscious of their heritage. He mentioned that the acquisition helps in supporting the government and preserving the historical significance of the vehicle. Velasco, after paying the bid price of PHP29,026,000 in cash, discussed the importance of saving the car from potential destruction.

Velasco was asked about the possibility of displaying the Rolls-Royce at the Igorot Stone Kingdom, a theme park in Baguio City owned by his company. He stated that no decision had been made yet. Velasco emphasized the importance of preserving the vehicle as it represents a historical artifact and highlights issues of corruption in the nation. He also noted that this auction was the third attempt to sell some of the vehicles, with the risk of them being destroyed if left unsold.

The Igorot Stone Kingdom features the culture of the Igorot people, showcasing their skills in riprapping or stone laying. The theme park reflects the rich heritage of the tribe.

Chris Bendijo, deputy chief of staff of the BOC Office of the Commissioner, reported that only the black Rolls-Royce was sold out of the 10 luxury cars at the auction. Other potential bidders included R33 Car Exchange Corp. and television host Wilfredo Revillame, who did not participate in the actual bidding.

The BOC declared a failed bidding for the remaining nine cars, which included luxury brands such as Bentley, Lincoln, GMC, Cadillac, and Maserati, all seized from the Discayas. Additionally, no bids were received for two Bugatti Chiron models, one from 2017 and another from 2019, with significantly higher starting prices.
