Baguio Health Office Urges Residents to Utilize District Health Centers for Early Illness Detection

Baguio: The city health office has called on residents to take advantage of free medical check-ups available at district health centers under the Universal Health Care law. This initiative aims to ensure early detection of illnesses among the population.

According to Philippines News Agency, city health officer Dr. Celia Flor Brillantes emphasized the availability of district health centers in addition to the main health center for residents to undergo health checks. She pointed out the importance of these check-ups not only when individuals feel unwell but also as a preventive measure to confirm their well-being.

Brillantes highlighted the significance of prevention, citing cardiovascular diseases and cancer as the leading causes of death in the city from January to September. She noted that cardiovascular conditions can be managed with medication, and early detection of cancer can lead to successful treatment outcomes.

In a separate statement, Mayor Benjamin Magalong encouraged the community to adopt healthier lifestyles and engage in regular health screenings. This initiative aligns with the city’s efforts to enhance public health and prevent diseases.

PhilHealth-Cordillera vice president Dr. Dominga Gadgad mentioned that the Yaman ng Kalusugan (YAKAP) program allows members to access preventive care benefits without needing hospitalization, supporting the broader goal of early illness detection and management.
