Baguio Deploys Over 800 Police Officers, Volunteers for ‘Undas’

Baguio: The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) will deploy more than 800 police officers and volunteers to ensure peace, order, and public safety during the observance of All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days. BCPO Director Col. Ruel Tagel announced that the deployment plan has received approval from the city administrator following coordination meetings with relevant agencies.

According to Philippines News Agency, a total of 567 police officers, 69 personnel from PNP support units, and 176 volunteers will take part in ‘Oplan Undas.’ Tagel emphasized the importance of focusing not only on crime prevention but also on emergency response and crowd management during the observance. He highlighted the need for readiness in responding to any incidents that may occur.

Tagel mentioned that there will be no rerouting for vehicles traveling near the largest cemetery, the public cemetery at Naguilian Road, but measures will be put in place to maintain order. Barriers and ropes will be installed to protect pedestrians visiting the public cemetery, and parking will be permitted in designated areas such as the Cooyeesan facility. Additionally, a 100-meter stretch before and after the cemetery gate will be designated as a no-parking zone, with drop-offs limited to senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

Prohibited items such as alcohol, cigarettes, bladed weapons, gambling paraphernalia, and sound systems will not be allowed inside cemeteries. Selling within the premises is also banned, with barangay officials assisting in enforcing these regulations. Last year, approximately 30,200 people visited the cemeteries, and the police expect an increase in visitors this year.
