Baguio City Seizes Lead with Archery Golds in Batang Pinoy

Manila: Baguio City collected 10 gold medals in archery on Tuesday to wrest the overall lead in the Batang Pinoy National Championships here. Jianna Rae Delos Reyes (girls’ 12 years old compound) and Jeptha Caleb Fernandez (boys’ 14 years old compound) delivered three golds each at the Notre Dame of Dadiangas University. Also winning their respective events were Jalorrae Cxethreen Lictao, Jan Precious Laking, Kester RJ Delos Reyes, and Ryzen Keith Viduya.

According to Philippines News Agency, as of 5:30 p.m., the four-time champion Baguio City has amassed 23 golds, 10 silvers, and 14 bronzes to dislodge Manila, which skidded to third spot with 13 golds, 11 silvers, and 12 bronzes. Quezon City jumped to second with 13 golds, 11 silvers, and 15 bronzes followed by reigning titlist Pasig City with 13 golds, 11 silvers, and 15 bronzes, and host General Santos City with eight golds, three silvers, and three bronzes.

Muntinlupa City is at No. 6 with seven golds, 11 silvers, and two bronzes followed by Cebu City (7-7-3), Zamboanga City (7-6-3), Davao City (6-12-19), and Pangasinan (5-3-1). A total of 18,698 athletes from 188 local government units are competing in 27 sports in the tournament organized by the Philippine Sports Commission. Cash prizes at stake are PHP5 million (first place), PHP4 million (2nd), PHP3 million (3rd), PHP2 million (4th), and PHP1 million (5th).
