Bacolod: This highly urbanized city unveiled a QR (quick response) code for Bacolodnons to access information on the infrastructure projects funded by the local government unit. The initiative was launched alongside the groundbreaking for the almost PHP66-million Cell No. 5 of the city's sanitary landfill in Barangay Felisa on Thursday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Greg Gasataya stated that the QR code for city government projects aims to promote full transparency, accountability, and good governance. "This initiative through Executive Order 39 is a measure to improve transparency and accountability in Bacolod City, as taxpayers deserve to know where their taxes go," he added in a statement.
The city government highlighted that with a single scan of a QR code, any Bacolodnon can access information such as the details of what's being built, the cost involved, the entities involved in the work - including both the contractor and project engineer, the project timeline, and photos and updates.
Developed by the city's Management Information Technology and Computer Services, the system also incorporates a feedback mechanism allowing any Bacolodnon to provide feedback or file complaints regarding the projects. The online progress monitoring system includes a platform for citizens to send complaints, concerns, and feedback regarding the projects for the city to address promptly.
