Bacolod City Police Gets Infrastructure and Logistics Boost

Bacolod city: The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) is set to benefit from a significant infrastructure enhancement with the construction of a new police building valued at nearly PHP10 million in Barangay Cabug. This development follows the city's recent provision of logistical equipment to the BCPO.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) initiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the Philippine National Police (PNP) standard-type three-story building. The project, with an approved budget of PHP10.55 million and a bid amount of PHP9.03 million, will serve as the new headquarters for Police Station 9, currently situated along Araneta Street in Barangay Sum-ag.

PRO-NIR director Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas stated that the construction of Police Station 9 is a testament to the belief that effective policing starts with a supportive system for its personnel. He emphasized that a police station is not merely a structure but a foundation for duty and service to the community, thereby enhancing public trust.

The ceremony, which included the laying of a time capsule, was attended by PRO-NIR Regional Staff chief Col. Gilbert Gorero, BCPO director Col. Joeresty Coronica, and Mayor Greg Gasataya. PRO-NIR spokesperson Lt. Col. Joem Malong mentioned that the construction is expected to be completed in 240 days and will enable station personnel to improve response times and bring police services closer to the community, especially in densely populated and developing areas.

Police Station 9 will primarily serve the villages of Cabug, Sum-ag, and Punta Taytay. Among the BCPO's 10 police stations, three already have standard-type police buildings, including those in Barangay Granada, Barangay Mansilingan, and Barangay Handumanan. Additionally, the Bacolod City Mobile Force Company operates out of a standard-type PNP building in Barangay Alangilan, and Police Station 3 in Barangay Mandalagan will soon relocate to a similar facility.

Recently, Mayor Gasataya handed over 40,800 rounds of 9mm training ammunition, 36 units of personal computers, and 34 printers to the BCPO. Col. Coronica noted that these resources are crucial for enhancing police operations and administrative efficiency, particularly in Special Weapons and Tactics training.
