Bacolod City Fast-Tracks Additional Development of Relocation Site for Displaced Families

Bacolod city: The city government is accelerating the development of its relocation site in Barangay Vista Alegre to accommodate families displaced by fire and those residing in danger zones. Mayor Greg Gasataya announced this initiative during the distribution of financial assistance to 117 fire-affected families at the Bacolod City College gymnasium. The total amount distributed was PHP1.255 million.

According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Gasataya instructed the Bacolod Housing Authority (BHA) to prioritize the development of remaining areas for relocation. He emphasized the need to relocate not only families affected by fires but also those living in hazardous areas, such as near creeks and rivers. The BHA has committed to expediting the development of more areas at the relocation site.

The latest group of beneficiaries for the city's financial assistance program includes families from various barangays: Barangay 10 (62 families), Barangay Banago (19 families), Barangay 26 (18 families), Barangay Singcang-Airport (11 families), Barangay Bata (5 families), and Barangay Alijis (2 families). Financial assistance varied according to the extent of damage, with those having totally damaged houses receiving PHP15,000 each, partially damaged PHP10,000, and renters or sharers PHP5,000.

Last month, the city government initiated the relocation of residents from danger zones, beginning with 37 families residing along Mambuloc Creek in Barangay 2, each receiving a cash assistance of PHP10,000.
