DSWD to set up regional offices for ex-rebels’ reintegration

MANILA: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will put up regional offices to oversee the reintegration of non-state armed groups and former rebels. Secretary Rex Gatchalian recently informed members of the House Committee on Appropriations of the grant of PHP500 million by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) for the purpose, according to a DSWD news release Sunday. Quizon settles for 6th in Abu Dhabi chess tourney

MANILA: Filipino International Master Daniel Quizon defeated Indian Grandmaster Sunilduth Lyna Narayanan in the final round of the 30th Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival Masters division at the United Arab Emirates on Saturday. The 20-year-old from Dasmariñas, Cavite finished the nine-round tournament with seven points for sixth place. GM Yakubboev Nodirbek of Uzbekistan won and GM David Paravyan of Russia placed second, followed by GM Shamsiddin Vokhidov of Uzbekistan, GM Leon Luke Mendonca of India and GM M. Israel strikes Lebanon as Hezbollah launches ‘imminent’ attack

JERUSALEM – Israel launched heavy airstrikes on Hezbollah positions across Lebanon after it detected the group’s plan to launch an imminent attack, the Israel Defense Forces said Sunday. ‘The IDF identified the Hezbollah terrorist organization preparing to fire missiles and rockets toward Israeli territory. CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Three persons died and 48 were critically injured after a passenger bus and a refrigerated wing van collided along the highway of Naawan, Misamis Oriental on Sunday. MANILA: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Sunday reminded the public to take advantage of the Register Anywhere Program (RAP) set up in private establishments and government offices across the country until Aug. 31. In a social media post, the poll body said qualified Filipinos who would like to vote in the May 2025 polls may visit the nearest RAP site regardless of where they reside.
