Aurora: Vice Governor Isidro Pimentel Galban was formally sworn in as the new governor of Aurora on Tuesday morning, following the passing of Governor Reynante Tolentino on Monday. The oath-taking took place during the provincial flag-raising ceremony at the Capitol Grounds, officiated by Municipal Circuit Trial Court Baler-San Luis Judge Edith Cynthia Wee-Cabbat.
According to Philippines News Agency, the solemn occasion was marked by the lowering of the Philippine flag to half-mast as employees and officials of the provincial government gathered in mourning. A mass was also celebrated to honor Tolentino’s memory and offer prayers for the repose of his soul.
In his first address as governor, Galban admitted the weight of the moment, saying it was painful to speak during a time of grief. “Unlike in my past messages where I would greet everyone with joy, today is a day of deep sorrow,” he said. “It is extremely painful and hard to accept the loss of a father figure-not just to his family, but to the entire province.”
Galban acknowledged the certainty of destiny and called for unity and humility in executing his new responsibilities. “Let us fulfill our duties with honor, honesty, and transparency in governance. I ask everyone to work together for Aurora’s continued progress,” he said.
Tolentino, who first took office in February 2024 and was later elected to a full term, focused on social welfare, medical assistance for impoverished patients, job creation, and disaster response, especially during the destruction caused by Typhoon Pepito. Provincial officials, employees, police officers, and members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (Provincial Board) attended the mass and tribute for Tolentino, remembering him as a generous and approachable leader whose legacy of public service will be long remembered.
