Antique: The Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) deployed two teams on Wednesday to ensure the safety of the public this Holy Week. PDRRMO chief Broderick Train stated that the teams, each comprising eight members, will be stationed in the Municipality of Hamtic, between Iloilo and Antique provinces, and in the coastal area of San Jose de Buenavista.
According to Philippines News Agency, Train explained that the team in Hamtic will work alongside the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to ensure road safety for commuters traveling to and from Iloilo. Meanwhile, the team in San Jose de Buenavista will conduct a beach watch in Barangay Dalipe. Train noted that this year, to conserve fuel, they will be stationed near the plaza rather than conducting mobile monitoring or assigning personnel to the mountainous border of Iloilo and Antique in Barangay Calala, Hamtic.
Train mentioned that Municipal DRRMOs will also deploy personnel for road safety and beach monitoring. He emphasized the importance of commuters checking their vehicles to avoid being stranded or involved in accidents. He recalled that last year, their teams responded to several vehicular accidents, but there were no drowning incidents.
Train further advised families and vacationers to exercise caution while swimming during the Holy Week, particularly urging them to avoid swimming under the influence of alcohol.
