Manila: Education Secretary Sonny Angara on Friday reaffirmed his commitment to serving the Department of Education (DepEd) 'at the pleasure' of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., amidst circulating rumors of a Cabinet reshuffle.
According to Philippines News Agency, Angara expressed his gratitude to the Palace for addressing the rumors, emphasizing his hope not to be part of any potential changes. In an ambush interview, he stated, "Hopefully, hindi tayo kasama doon kung meron man (We hope that we're not included in that if there's any),' reinforcing his willingness to serve at the President's discretion.
Despite not having directly discussed the issue with President Marcos, Angara shared that the Office of Executive Secretary informed him there are no plans for a Cabinet revamp. The Palace had previously denied any intended reorganization of significant government positions under the Marcos administration.
Regarding his performance, Angara deferred to his superiors for evaluation while continuing to focus on implementing reforms within the DepEd for the benefit of learners and teachers.
