Albay Towns and Bicol University Suspend Classes for 40th EDSA Commemoration

Albay: Local chief executives in Albay province moved to suspend face-to-face classes at all levels on Wednesday to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power. In Camalig municipality, Mayor Carlos Irwin Baldo issued an order suspending face-to-face classes to help manage public movement, promote safety, and allow time to observe and reflect on the significance of the event.

According to Philippines News Agency, Baldo stated that schools in the area are advised to shift to appropriate alternative learning modalities, including online classes, modular learning, or other flexible learning arrangements, in accordance with existing policies and guidelines. He also asked students to remain at home as Mayon Volcano is still under Alert Level 3.

Local chief executives of the municipalities of Polangui, Guinobatan, Daraga, Pio Duran, Rapu-Rapu, Libon, Jovellar, Bacacay, and Legazpi City also ordered the suspension of classes for the upcoming event.

Meanwhile, Bicol University authorized shifting classes to an online, asynchronous mode across all levels and colleges and units of the academe. The asynchronous classes will continue until Feb. 27 at Bicol University's West, East, and Daraga campuses to allow for deep cleaning and clearing operations, ensuring a safe and secure environment for the entire university community. The initiative also supports the university's hosting of several events for the Palarong Bicol scheduled from March 1 to 7.
