Bulacan: The Bulacan provincial government, through its Public Employment Service Office, assisted eight overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) repatriated from the Middle East. Upon the OFWs' arrival at Villamor Air Base in Pasay City on Monday afternoon from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the provincial government arranged transportation for the Bulakenyos and their families to the capitol. Each OFW received PHP10,000 in cash, two cavans of rice, food packs, and boxes of fruits.
According to Philippines News Agency, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. welcomed the 343 OFWs from Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia aboard the fourth government-chartered flight. Many of them endured long land travels due to airspace restrictions. "Welcome back, our beloved Bulakenyos. Let's think now about how we will work together and help each other while you are here," Governor Daniel Fernando told the OFWs. He suggested that, while tensions abroad continue, the repatriated OFWs may attend the provincial government's monthly job fairs to find work suited to their skills.
The repatriated OFWs hail from the City of San Jose del Monte, Paombong, Norzagaray, and Bocaue. Ana, one of the OFWs, expressed gratitude to the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait, Department of Migrant Workers, and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration for ensuring their safe return home. "During the long journey we took by land, we didn't know what would happen to us. Thank you also, Governor, for the financial assistance. This is a big thing for us as we return to the Philippines; this is a big help for us," she said.
Returning OFWs receive government assistance, including temporary accommodation, transportation, and financial aid, with arrangements for travel to their home provinces.
