6 Manila Cops in Hot Water Over Alleged Robbery

Makati city: Six police officers were arrested and will face criminal and administrative charges for alleged robbery in Makati City. Makati Police said the victims positively identified the officers as the suspects in a robbery that occurred around 7:48 p.m. on Wednesday along Arsonvel St. in Barangay San Isidro.

According to Philippines News Agency, the suspects, holding the ranks of staff sergeant and patrolman, are assigned to Malate Police Station 9 under the Manila Police District. In a statement on Thursday, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin said Makati Police arrested the six "without second thought."

"This (arrest) was done after investigation and on the basis of the positive identification of the victims," he said. He added that the six are now detained and "will be criminally charged with airtight cases to ensure conviction."

The suspects will also face administrative charges, which will result in their dismissal from the service in accordance with proper procedures. Aberin said the station commander of Malate Police Station and all members of the Station Drug Enforcement Unit have already been relieved of their posts, as they would all be subjected to an in-depth investigation to determine possible violations.
