Surigao city: At least 2,800 tricycle drivers in Surigao City received fuel subsidies from the provincial government on Labor Day Friday. Reynaldo Ramos Jr. expressed gratitude to the provincial government for their assistance during these challenging times.
According to Philippines News Agency, Ramos acknowledged the importance of this aid, particularly as fuel prices continue to rise. He emphasized the positive impact of the subsidy on tricycle drivers and their families. John Alas, president of the Quadro Alas Tatak Lig-on Transportation Association, also extended his thanks to the provincial administration, noting that the subsidy would help drivers maintain their income despite the high fuel costs.
Dayton Pangadin shared that he utilized the subsidy to fill his tricycle's tank and plans to use the remaining funds for essential household purchases. In addition to Surigao City, drivers of tricycles, bao-baos, and multicabs from other towns in the province will also receive fuel subsidies.
The total number of beneficiaries in Surigao del Norte is 5,132 drivers. Surigao del Norte Governor Robert Lyndon Barbers led the distribution of the subsidy, which aims to support drivers affected by the fuel crisis resulting from ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Barbers mentioned that funds were reallocated from the Office of the Governor and other provincial departments to support the transport sector.
Governor Barbers expressed appreciation to the Provincial Council for their prompt action in approving the funding for the subsidy. He clarified that the beneficiaries are those holding franchises issued by the city government for operation.
