Bago city: Seven villages have been identified as the location of the proposed 150-megawatt wind power project of Bago-Negros Energy Corp. in Bago City, Negros Occidental. The areas – Calumangan, Napoles, Taloc, Sampinit, Busay, Balingasag, and Lag-asan – have been outlined in the notice of public scoping set for October 28, released by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ (DENR) Environment Management Bureau (EMB) in the Negros Island Region.
According to Philippines News Agency, public scoping is an early stage in the environmental impact assessment process where the proponent aims to provide an overview of the proposed project, gather issues and concerns, and other relevant information to determine the scope of work and terms of reference for preparing the environmental impact statement. The Bago project is one of the wind power projects awarded by the Department of Energy as of March 31, 2025.
In July, executives of Thai-owned Sermsang Power Corp., the project proponent, met with Mayor Marina Javellana-Yao, who expressed the full support of the city government for the new investment. Sermsang Power’s chief operating officer, Passakorn Panyaratanakorn, noted the potential of the wind farm that will be installed in Bago City, stating, “This is going to be our very first project in the Philippines.”
A document posted on the power firm’s website showed that in November last year, Sermsang’s chief financial officer, Chayut Leehacharoenkul, sent an information memorandum to the Stock Exchange of Thailand regarding its acquisition of the assets of Bago Negros Energy Corp. The project boasts an installed capacity of 150 MW with a total investment valued at USD 250 million.
