Over 100 Residents Displaced by Army-NPA Conflict in Samar

Manila: Over 100 residents from two upland villages in Gandara, Samar, are currently sheltered in evacuation centers after fleeing their homes due to a series of clashes over the weekend between government troops and members of the New People’s Army (NPA). The fear of a spillover of violence prompted residents near Barangay Geregangan to seek safety. According to Philippines News Agency, data from the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) indicates that 29 families, accounting for 88 individuals, have received assistance. In particular, eight families, comprising 24 individuals, sought refuge at the Barangay Minda Covered Court in Barangay Marcos.

Verbena Downs Transmission Lines in the Visayas

Manila: Four transmission lines in the Visayas are currently unavailable due to Tropical Depression Verbena, which is affecting a huge part of the country. According to Philippines News Agency, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) reported in its 9 a.m. Tuesday update that the affected lines include the Sta. Barbara-Miagao-San Joaquin 69kV Line servicing the Iloilo 1 Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ILECO I), the Iloilo-Lapaz 69kV Line for ILECO 1 and MORE Electric and Power Corporation, the Ubay-Garcia 69kV Line for Bohol II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BOHECO II), and the Paranas-Quinapondan 69kV Line for Eastern Samar Electric Cooperative Inc.
