Johor State Assembly Speaker Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi said that the notification of the vacant Mahkota state seat has been submitted to the Election Commission (EC) this morning. He said that the notification was sent via fax following the death of its incumbent, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain on Friday. ‘The Johor State Assembly submitted the notice to the EC for further action,’ he said in a statement today. Sharifah Azizah, 63, who was Kluang Wanita UMNO Division chief, passed away at 12.32 pm on Friday while receiving treatment at the Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital (HEBHK) in Kluang.

Perak Barisan Nasional (BN) has mobilised party machinery, including Orang Asli members, to support the coalition candidate contesting the Nenggiri by-election in Kelantan. State BN chairman Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said that the team has been active in Gua Musang for a week, focusing their efforts on the Sungai Asap voting district centre (PDM); and two Orang Asli PDMs, in Sungai Puian and Pos Simpor, respectively. ‘We have mobilised Orang Asli members, who are canvassing door to door, and by coincidence, some of them have family connections in the area,’ Saarani explained at a press conference after the Perak SUKMA

Ahmad Zahid, who is Deputy Prime Minister, said the proposal put forward by Kota Raja UMNO division chief Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz is consistent with the current political reality, which is built on cooperation among parties within the Unity Government. However, Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani, also known as Awie, said this challenge does not hinder his efforts to engage every voter in the constituency.
