Pilgrimage circuit promotes faith tourism in Ilocos Region

House OKs bill declaring tobacco smuggling as economic sabotage

MANILA : With 225 votes, the House of Representatives on Monday approved on final reading a measure seeking to declare as “economic sabotage” the smuggling of tobacco products into the country.   House Bill (HB) No. 3917, seeks to amend Sections 3 and 4 of Republic Act (RA) No. 10845, otherwise known as The Anti-agricultural Smuggling Act of 2016, and was principally authored by Senior Deputy Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Sandro Marcos and Assistant Majority Leader and PBA Party-list Rep. 7-day ‘one-time, big-time’ ops yield P39.6-M illegal drugs in NCR

MANILA : Operatives of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) confiscated over PHP39 million worth of illegal drugs as a result of “one-time, big-time”'(OTBT) operations from Dec. 3 to 9.   The NCRPO covers five districts — the Manila Police District (MPD), Quezon City Police District (QCPD), Northern Police District (NPD), Southern Police District (SPD) and Eastern Police District (EPD).   NCRPO chief Maj. House pushes for creation of e-commerce bureau

MANILA : The House of Representatives on Monday approved on final reading the proposed Internet Transactions Act, which is a priority legislation of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in his first State of the Nation Address.   During Monday’s plenary session, a total of 245 lawmakers voted in favor of House Bill 4, which seeks to create an electronic commerce (e-commerce) bureau to protect consumers and merchants engaged in internet transactions. No lawmaker voted against the measure or abstained from voting.   It was authored principally by Speaker Martin Romualdez, Senior Deputy Majority Leader Sandro Marcos and Tingog party-list Reps.

BOC-Zamboanga to destroy P395-M smuggled cigarettes

ZAMBOANGA CITY: The Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Zamboanga will destroy some PHP395 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in full public view on Tuesday in Barangay Baliwasan here.   “These (cigarettes) will then be disposed of in the sanitary landfill in Barangay Salaan,” BOC-Zamboanga district collector Segundo Sigmundfreud Barte Jr. said in a statement Monday.   He said the contraband were seized in anti-smuggling operations from May to November this year in the Zamboanga Peninsula and nearby island provinces of Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.   Barte said the cigarettes consisting of
