Ilocos region: The Department of Health (DOH) in Ilocos Region has initiated the deployment of 20 newly appointed government physicians, enhancing access to quality healthcare throughout the region.
According to Philippines News Agency, the deployment of these doctors is aimed at providing consistent and accessible medical care, particularly in communities that have long awaited such services. DOH Ilocos Region Director Paula Paz Sydiongco emphasized that this initiative brings quality healthcare closer to the homes of local residents.
The new doctors will be stationed in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs), rural health units, and government hospitals across the Ilocos Region. Their presence is expected to bolster frontline services and reinforce primary care delivery. The doctors will play a crucial role in supporting disease prevention, maternal and child health services, non-communicable disease management, and emergency response capabilities.
Director Sydiongco highlighted that this deployment is a step toward strengthening the foundation of the primary care health system by sending medical professionals to areas where they are most needed. She noted that it aligns with the DOH's ongoing efforts to enhance human resources within the healthcare system.
