16 Barangays in Iligan City Cleared of Illegal Drugs

Iligan city: Sixteen of the 44 barangays in Iligan City have been declared drug-cleared and drug-free as the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) intensifies its call for monitoring in the communities. In a concerted effort to combat illegal drugs, the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council has implemented strategies to ensure the safety and security of residents across the city.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC) in Northern Mindanao announced that Iligan City's 14 barangays are now classified as drug-cleared, while two are categorized as drug-free. This classification follows the guidelines of the Barangay Drug Clearing Program of the Dangerous Drugs Board, which labels barangays as drug-cleared once they have completed rehabilitation from previous involvement in the illegal drug trade.

The ROCBDC's report highlights the success of community-level vigilance and the effectiveness of the Barangay Drug Clearing Program. A drug-free barangay is classified as one that has never been involved in any illegal drug-related activities, showcasing the proactive measures taken by local leaders and residents.

Rowel Rubio, head of Iligan-CADAC, emphasized the importance of vigilance and consistent monitoring at the grassroots level to prevent the proliferation of illegal drugs. He stated that residents play a vital role in this initiative by referring issues to the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council, CADAC, and national agencies. "Monitoring and coordination are vital within the community. The cooperation of our constituents is crucial in every barangay," Rubio said.
