Negros oriental: The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) in Negros Oriental reported Monday that 3,714 cats and dogs have been vaccinated against rabies as the country observes Rabies Awareness Month this March.
According to Philippines News Agency, PVO spokesperson Jaymar Vilos stated in a telephone interview that as of March 13, a total of 626 cats and 3,088 dogs received free anti-rabies vaccinations across the province. "They received free anti-rabies vaccination from the PVO in the different local government units (LGUs) participating in our anti-rabies campaign drive, which started early this year on Feb. 20," Vilos said.
The 15 LGUs participating in the campaign are Dauin, Sibulan, Amlan, Siaton, Pamplona, Bindoy, Manjuyod, Valencia, Basay, Ayungon, Guihulngan City, Dumaguete City, Tanjay City, Bayawan City, and Bais City. Zamboanguita and Tayasan towns are still scheduled for PVO visits.
Vilos mentioned that aside from free anti-rabies vaccines, deworming was administered to 967 animals, vitamin supplementation to 1,410, and consultations to 564. The PVO expects numbers to continue rising, as it is still only mid-March and LGUs can continue providing these services independently depending on resource availability.
