14 Antique centenarians to receive cash gifts

Fourteen centenarians from Antique are to receive their cash grant of PHP100,000 each before the end of the first quarter of the year.

Social Welfare and Development – Antique office focal person Lovelyn Ocbian said in an interview Friday the centenarians would also receive a congratulatory letter from President Rodrigo Duterte.

“The centenarians are from the eight towns of the province,” she said.

The oldest among the awardees include a 104-year-old man and a 101-year-old woman.

Three of the centenarians are from the municipalities of San Remigio while the others are from the towns of Belison, Hamtic, Sebaste, and San Jose de Buenavista with one each; Tibiao with three; and two each from Sibalom and Valderrama.

“Last year, we were able to release cash grants to 15 centenarians in Antique,” Ocbian said, adding that they were given their PHP100,000 cash grant last year as support of the national government for them.

She noted that the centenarians who are set to receive the financial support would still receive PHP100,000 each, even though the amendment to Republic Act 10868 or the Centenarians Act of 2016 raising to PHP1 million the cash grant for 101-year-olds and above was approved by the House of Representatives on January 31.

House Bill 10647, which amends the Centenarians Act of 2016, is still subject to further proceedings until implemented.
