Q3 nationwide quake drill postponed due to bad weather

The third quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) set on Thursday has been postponed due to Typhoon Jolina and the impending threat of Typhoon Kiko, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Wednesday.

“Bilang pag-iingat po sa bagyong Jolina at sa posibleng maging epekto ni Typhoon Kiko ay napagdesisyunan po ang pagpapaliban ng pagsasagawa ng 3rd NSED na gaganapin sana bukas ng umaga (As part of the precautions for the effects caused by Typhoon Jolina and the possible impact of Typhoon Kiko, the conduct of the 3rd quarter NSED scheduled on Thursday morning will be postponed),” NDRRMC deputy spokesperson Mark Cashean Timbal said in a message to reporters.

He added that the move is to give the public the chance to monitor the effects of the weather disturbances and take the necessary actions.

“Bilang kunsiderasyon na rin po sa posibleng epekto sa Internet connections sa maraming mga lugar bunsod ng bagyo (And this also a consideration on people in areas whose Internet connections might be affected by the typhoon),” Timbal said.

He added the new date for the 3rd quarter of the NSED has yet to be determined.

The NSED for the first and second quarters of this year was held on March 11 and June 10, respectively.

This is supposedly the country’s fifth online NSED following the two online drills in the third and fourth quarter of 2020.
