Public warned on fake DSWD FB page offering aid

The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Davao Region (DSWD-11) is warning the public against individuals or groups behind the creation of a dubious DSWD Facebook page that supposedly offers financial aid to netizens.

In an interview Thursday, Kristelle May Cagatin, DSWD-11 information officer, said they have received a report from a concerned citizen that a bogus FB page of their agency is circulating online, asking the public to register through a link for them to avail of PHP10,000 financial assistance.

“We don’t have an idea of its creator and the number of those victimized by that page. The last time we checked, they already have 46,986 likes,” she told the Philippine News Agency.

Cagatin said the DSWD has no program or financial assistance being implemented online or through social media platforms.

“We only release announcements and information in our official Facebook pages,” she added.

She reminded the public to only refer to the DSWD’s official Facebook Page or its official handle @dswdserves, which has over 1.1 million followers, for announcements and updates regarding various services and programs of the agency.

“We urge the public not to like or follow the (bogus) page and avoid believing in their posts. It could be a scam and a source of misinformation,” Cagatin said.

DSWD is currently taking appropriate action and investigation regarding the matter.

For similar concerns, the public is advised to report it to the DSWD Agency Operations Center through the 8888 hotline.
