PSA to poll women, girls in 1.6K Ilocos households

About 1,595 randomly selected sample households in the Ilocos region will be part of the Women and Information and Communications Technology Development Index (WIDI) survey from January 31 to February 26.

In a phone interview on Friday, Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Ilocos information officer Jim Ian Bautista said the WIDI survey is the first national survey on information and communications technology (ICT) focusing on women and girls in the country.

“It will be a computer-assisted personal interview mode of data collection,” Bautista said.

He added that the WIDI survey is a collaboration between the PSA and the Department of Information and Communications Technology.

“The WIDI aims to enrich the domain of women and ICT by establishing key indicators that will capture the situation of women, focusing on the aspects of Digital Economy, ICT Access, and ICT Usage that are affecting women the most. It hopes to provide a more in-depth study of women and ICTs, especially on documenting how ICTs are used to expand women’s social, economic, and livelihood opportunities,” Bautista said.

He said the PSA appeals to the sample households to cooperate and provide truthful, complete, and accurate information to the enumerators.

“The respondents are assured that data to be collected in the survey shall be covered by the confidentiality of information clause under the law, which stipulates that individual data furnished by a respondent to statistical inquiries, surveys, and censuses of the PSA shall be considered privileged information and such shall be inadmissible as evidence in any proceeding,” Bautista said.
