Probe seeks to identify owner of P850-K smuggled cigarettes

An investigation has been ordered to determine the owner of the P850,000 smuggled cigarettes seized in Zamboanga Sibugay on Tuesday.

Brig. Gen. Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan, Police Regional Office (PRO) 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) director, issued the order on Wednesday after policemen found the smuggled cigarettes abandoned by its shipper in Purok Manga, Barangay Caparan, Ipil, the capital of Zamboanga Sibugay at around 4:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Ylagan said policemen earlier launched an anti-smuggling operation after they received information that a shipment of smuggled cigarettes was set to arrive early Tuesday in Ipil.

“The smuggled cigarettes were left unattended by unidentified suspect(s),” he added.

He said that the confiscated smuggled cigarettes were taken to the Ipil Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.

Meanwhile, Ylagan ordered all units under PRO-9 to sustain their anti-smuggling drives in their respective areas of operation.
