Over 300 health protocol violators nabbed in Davao City

More than 300 individuals have been arrested for violating physical distancing and mass gathering protocols from December 13 to 20, the Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) said Tuesday.

In a statement, Angel Sumagaysay, head of the PSSCC, said the 331 persons apprehended over the past week brought the total to 43,302 violators since May 16.

“Let us abide by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) protocols and guidelines,” Sumagaysay reminded the Dabawenyos, urging them to remain vigilant against the disease despite the city’s Alert Level 2 status.

While some of the city’s Covid-19 restrictions have been relaxed, Sumagaysay appealed to Dabawenyos to continue adhering to the basic minimum public health standards (MPHS) like wearing face masks and observing physical distancing, especially during Christmas festivities.

“Although we have eased other restrictions, there has been a movement of people, a lot of movement. The apprehensions are due to the strict implementation by enforcers,” he said.

“We won’t hesitate on arresting violators. It’s a holiday, you don’t have money because of the pandemic, and you get caught. You will have to pay PHP500 for the first offense,” he added.

Davao City has lately continued to enjoy a low Covid-19 positivity rate with no new cases recorded in the city on December 19.

“Even fully vaccinated individuals can be infected, which is why Dabawenyos should not let their guards down,” Sumagaysay added.
