‘Inside job’ eyed in Sukelco’s missing P1.6-M collection money

Police authorities in Tacurong City are now hunting down a security guard suspected of stealing PHP1.6 million collection money from the Sultan Kudarat Electric Cooperative (Sukelco) office.

Lt. Col. Joan Maganto, Tacurong police director, on Wednesday identified the suspect as security guard Ariel Bernabe of Barangay Kalawag 2, Isulan town.

“He is now being hunted down,” Maganto said.

Initial investigation showed that Bernabe has not reported for work and could not be reached through his mobile phone.

His colleagues could not provide information about his whereabouts.

Even his boarding house was emptied and there were indications he is not returning anymore, Maganto said.

The Sukelco management reported to the police the missing PHP 1,611,280 collection on Monday afternoon.

Maganto said the police’s scene of the crime operatives have gathered fingerprints and other forensic data at the Sukelco finance office.

Closed-circuit television footage is also being reviewed by the Philippine National Police cybercrime office, he added.
