Davao extends ban on non-essential gov’t events until Dec. 31

DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Z. Duterte has extended the ban on the conduct of face-to-face non-essential events in villages, local and national government offices, including government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) based in this city until Dec. 31 this year.

In Executive Order (EO) 43 issued on Wednesday, Duterte said the prohibition on government-organized activities such as inauguration, anniversary, thanksgiving, ribbon-cutting, blessing, turnover, launching programs, oath-taking, photo opportunity, retirement honors, welcome honors, testimonial programs, summer outing, birthday, press conference and team building would be banned starting Sept. 1.

“The above events are all allowed on online platforms only,” the EO added.

Duterte earlier released EO 31 prohibiting the conduct of these activities from May 26 to Aug. 31.

All face-to-face non-emergency essential government activities, including trainings and seminars, are also suspended until year-end.

“All non-emergency activities, training, and seminars are allowed on online platforms only. However, offices may apply for exemption from the coverage of this section to the City Mayor’s Office. The letter must include a comprehensive plan on how to execute their non-emergency essential activity without creating a mass gathering situation,” Duterte said in the EO.

However, all disaster and emergency activities including the distribution of financial, food, and non-food items are allowed.

“The distribution of food and non-food items that are not related to a disaster or emergency event should be distributed house to house in the form of contactless delivery by the organizer or in a distribution system where no mass gathering is conducted,” the EO added.

These activities include but are not limited to the distribution of livelihood kits, information materials, distribution of government aid, community pantry, food aid, and all other similar activities. (PNA)
