CIDG rescues 13 from ‘shadowy’ work recruitment in Cotabato

COTABATO CITY – Police agents have arrested an alleged illegal recruiter and rescued 13 female victims cramped in a den while applying for work contracts abroad during a raid here, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Maguindanao announced Wednesday.

Major Esmael Madin, CIDG-Maguindanao head, said they have arrested Maaladin M. Salasal, an employee of the questionable Iemploy Manpower Services, around 3 p.m. Tuesday in Barangay Mother Bagua following a complaint from a concerned citizen in connection with the operation of the recruitment agency.

Madin said still at large is Aisha Alabawi, a companion of the arrested suspect. “Follow-up operations are underway,” he said.

He said their operation is part of their “Oplan Pagsisikap” or the campaign against illegal recruitment and trafficking of migrant workers with the Simultaneous Anti Criminality Law Enforcement Operation (SACLEO).

Of the 13 human trafficking victims, three each are from the provinces of Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay; two each from Sultan Kudarat and Maguindanao; and one each from Zamboanga del Norte and the cities of Davao and Zamboanga.

Madin said appropriate charges are being prepared against the suspect who is currently detained at the CIDG-Maguindanao headquarters here. (PNA)
