Active Covid-19 cases among Soccsksargen cops decrease

The number of active coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases among police personnel in Region 12 (Soccsksargen) has significantly decreased in the past weeks as more patients continue to recover.

Maj. Jenahmeel Toñacao, deputy chief of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-12’s community affairs and development division, said on Thursday the active cases from their ranks have dropped to 49 after reaching over 100 last month.

He said 47 of them are under close monitoring in various isolation facilities in the region’s four provinces and four cities while two are admitted in a hospital.

As of July 26, he said the confirmed Covid-19 cases since March last year among police personnel in the region already reached a total of 652, with 601 of the patients listed as fully recovered.

“Most of our cases are asymptomatic and some of those who already recovered are already vaccinated,” Toñacao told reporters.

But the official said all their units remain alert against another possible surge of Covid-19 cases and are implementing the necessary control measures.

These include the mandatory wearing of face masks and face shields for all personnel and visitors of police stations and offices and the strict observance of safe physical distancing.

PRO-12 has been conducting regular Covid-19 testing among its personnel, especially those assigned in checkpoints and other frontline assignments, based on an order from the Philippine National Police (PNP) central office.

PNP chief, Director General Guillermo Eleazar, earlier ordered police units in the country to observe the necessary control measures due to the threats posed by the Covid-19 Delta variant and other mutant strains.

“The threat is still out there but we just continue performing our duties, especially in making sure that our communities will remain safe and secure,” Toñacao said.

The active Covid-19 cases in Soccsksargen have continued to decline and were recorded at just 2,544 as of 6 p.m. Wednesday after reaching over 3,800 in June.

The confirmed infections in the region since March last year already reached 27,035, with 881 related deaths and 23,605 recoveries.
