33 displaced workers get start-up capital for small biz

The province of Ilocos Norte is calling on displaced workers to register at the Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO) located on the ground floor of the Capitol building to avail of the “Negokart” (Negosyo sa Kariton) grant and get rolling in business.

“We’re encouraging other interested negokart applicants to visit and register at PESO here at the Provincial Capitol for our next batch of beneficiaries,” Anne Marie Lizette Bitancor-Atuan said in an interview Friday after the distribution of at least 33 negokarts to displaced workers and ambulant vendors, mostly from this city.

Each beneficiary was given a start-up business kit worth PHP30,000, which they can use for their roving street food-vending businesses, such as siopao, fish ball, burger, fruits, and lutong ulam.

Aside from the carts, all beneficiaries have undergone entrepreneurship development training on basic management and bookkeeping to ensure the proper management and sustainability of their negokart.

The distribution of negokart was adopted by the Ilocos Norte government in response to the unemployment problem by assisting ambulant vendors in enhancing their existing livelihood undertakings into a more profitable and sustainable business.
