The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) confirmed Sunday three deaths by drowning when Typhoon Jolina slammed the country early last week.
Reports of 14 deaths, five injured, and three missing are still undergoing validation, the NDRRMC report added.
The three confirmed fatalities were all males from Marinduque, although it was not clear yet when the incident happened.
NDRRMC also said that the number of individuals affected by “Jolina” has reached 313,373.
The tally is equivalent to 81,048 families from 1,346 villages in Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Soccsksargen, and the National Capital Region.
Of the total, 2,958 families or 11,212 individuals are being aided in 181 evacuation centers while the rest stayed with relatives and friends.
A total of 8,924 houses were damaged in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, and Eastern Visayas.
Out of this figure, 8,492 were partially damaged while 432 were totally damaged.
The damage caused by “Jolina” to agriculture and infrastructure has so far been placed at PHP628 million and PHP57 million, respectively.
The typhoon made five landfalls in Samar with the first in Hernani, Eastern Samar on the night of Sept. 6, followed by those in the Samar towns of Daram, Santo Niño, Almagro, and Tagapul-an.
‘Kiko’ victims
Meanwhile, the number of individuals affected by Typhoon Kiko which ravaged Babuyan Islands, Batanes and Cagayan province the most, has reached 11,145.
As of the 8 a.m. update Sunday, NDRRMC said the tally is equivalent to 2,780 families from 97 villages in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon and Cordillera Administrative Region.
As of the 11 a.m. weather bulletin, ‘Kiko’ was spotted 395 kilometers north of Itbayat, Batanes, which was placed under Signal No. 4 on Saturday.
All tropical cyclone wind signals have been lowered or removed with Batanes now under Signal No. 1 and continuing to experience strong winds within the next 36 hours.
