Cabreros was driving a van when flagged down by policemen manning a checkpoint along the national highway.

When inspected, the van was found loaded with 64 master cases of assorted smuggled cigarettes that came from this city en route to Zamboanga Sibugay, Verseles said.

“The (police) team saw in plain view assorted boxes of alleged smuggled cigarettes inside (the van) when the driver opened the panel van,” Verseles said in a statement.

“When asked for pertinent document or permit to transport (the cigarettes), the driver failed to show any document,” he added.
