Zambo City mayor tests positive for Covid-19

Mayor John Dalipe has tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

“Unfortunately, Mayor John Dalipe tested positive for Covid-19 but is asymptomatic,” the city government said in a statement Wednesday.

Dalipe, a registered nurse, was found infected with the disease after he underwent Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test in Manila Tuesday afternoon.

Dalipe submitted himself to the RT-PCR test as a requirement for the courtesy call of the League of Cities of the Philippines with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Tuesday night in Malacañang Palace.

Meanwhile, Dalipe assured residents that he will continue to discharge his duties and responsibilities as mayor.

He also said government transactions and services will remain unhampered while completing his mandatory isolation.

Active cases of Covid-19 here continued to rise over the past few days, prompting the City Health Office (CHO) to issue a warning for people to continue practicing minimum health standards.

Latest CHO data showed that the city has 159 active Covid-19 cases, of which 156 are from the community and the remaining three are authorized persons outside the residence.

It also showed that the city has 29,598 cumulative confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic in March 2020 with 28,182 recoveries and 1,257 deaths
